Invisible Children
Annual Report Design (Concept)
Overview
In 2004, the United Nations called the LRA crisis in northern Uganda the “most forgotten, neglected humanitarian emergency in the world.” Invisible Children was founded to change that and to fight against the false notion that our responsibility to each other stops at our own nations’ borders. Invisible Children’s founders believed that if people around the world knew the reality of LRA violence -- more than 60,000 children abducted, tens of thousands killed, and millions displaced -- and if they could see the names, faces, and stories behind the statistics, they would be moved to take action and demand justice. They were right. By harnessing the power of storytelling, youth idealism, and human empathy, they mobilized millions around the world to raise the banner for LRA-affected communities and move world leaders to take historic action to end the LRA crisis.
Invisible Children, Inc. is an organization founded in 2004 to bring awareness to the activities of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Central Africa, and its leader, Joseph Kony. Specifically, the group seeks to put an end to the practices of the LRA which include abductions and abuse of children, and forcing them to serve as soldiers. To this end, Invisible Children urges the United States government to take military action in the central region of Africa. Invisible Children also operates as a charitable organization, soliciting donations and selling merchandise to raise money for their cause. The organization promotes its cause by dispensing films on the internet and presenting in high schools and colleges around the United States.

The Final Design
In the final design, it is all about grit, hope, compassion, strength, love, resilience, inspiration, building, community, peace, and joy. All of these are Invisible Children’s mission, to help bring serenity and hope in a world of chaos and turbulence captured beginning with a simple yet meaningful typographical design of the cover page. Large, beautiful, powerful, emotional full-bleed photographs grace the pages of these document that inspires hope along with the message conveyed in the text. The strong relationship between images, colors, graphics, illustration, and text all blend well in harmony in creating a report that creates an impact beyond just information and connects at an emotional level. The emotional connection through the design of the document shall hopefully provide inspiration for readers to become part or to be involved in many ways to this important cause led by Invisible Children.
